Yesterday was so jammed pack I am exhausted. WOOF

I attended a training session with my current host Dogs for the Deaf.

Here I am with Devo the Black Labrador Autism Assistance Dog.

He is just gorgeous. I was so proud to meet him and he showed me what he does everyday.

Devo shows me how an Autism Assistance Dog can be an anchor if a child bolts.

I was playing the part of the child, who is haltered to the Autism Assistance Dog.

Devo does a GREAT job as the anchor as his trainer, Carrie, gives the HALT command.

He is so smart!! I was in awe!

Here I was observing and Devo was teaching about his Autism Training Session.

Ms. Southern Oregon, Misty Mccord even came out to Dogs for the Deaf to meet me. WOW, I was so excited.

Today I had so much fun adventuring around Oregon with Dogs for the Deaf !!

To start my big day, I had to eat a healthy breakfast before heading out to the sites!

This is my pawsome Host Kris, she works at Dogs for the Deaf, she is the pawtographer, Web Manager!

I met the President/CEO Robin Dickson and Dogs for the Deaf Demo Dog Bonsai !

I met Dexter, this is my Host Kris's dog, he is a Career Change Dog from Dogs for the Deaf!

We went to visit the Butte Creek Mill to see all the great stuff they have, you can read about their history, here:

New Pal I met at the Winery!

This is my new friend at the Del Rio Vinyard and Winery – Gloria works in the tasting room and has her own dog, Lady, who is a Dogs For the Deaf Career Change Dog!  I thought it was best to not sample any wine since I had so much traveling to do today!

This winery is so beautiful!

I made it back to the Dogs for the Deaf World Headquarters!

Next up, When I arrived back at Dogs for the Deaf I had a huge suprise waiting for me there.

Guess Who? KDRV Channel 12 in Oregon was there to interview me!!!!  WOW, I had to make sure I had my story together and was ready to be on air.  I was so suprised!!

Robin Dickson told John from Channel 12 about Dogs for the Deaf Organization and also about my adventures around the globe and how I started out traveling!

I got to tell him where I have been around the globe and how many pawsome friends and pals I have met!

He wanted to do a up close and personal shot!

I wanted to sign the Guest Book at Butte Creek Mill!

This sure was a fun and exciting day! I cannot wait for everyone to see me on TV!

I arrived at Dogs for the Deaf yesterday. Whew, it was a long flight to Oregon.  I was so glad to arrive and get some fresh air.  WOOF.

Here I am just arriving and unpacking my suitcase.

I have my own Hearing Dog Leash!

I started learning stay commands already! I passed with no problem!

I helped Dogs for the Deaf update their website. Look at my pawsome training vest!

Dogs for the Deaf is such an incredible organization.

I feel so proud to be visiting them and learning what it takes to become a Hearing Dog!  I think I can learn what is required to pass with flying colors.

Here is some information about Dogs for the Deaf

Rescuing homeless dogs and professionally training them to enhance lives is what Dogs for the Deaf is all about. In over 30 years, Dogs for the Deaf has rescued and placed over 3,000 dogs in homes as Hearing Dogs, Miracle Mutts (Special Dogs for Special People), Harmony’s Hounds (Dogs with Special Needs), and Career Change Dogs. In keeping with this tradition, we are proud to announce the start of a pilot Autism Assistance Dog Program. This program will allow us to rescue and train more dogs, specifically more large dogs. Our primary focus is training Hearing Dogs and that will not change. The Autism Assistance Dog Program is a small program that will enhance our organization’s ability to help more people and dogs but will not detract from our primary focus of training and placing Hearing Dogs.

• In 30 years, DFD has rescued and placed over 3,000 dogs in homes as Hearing Dogs, Miracle Mutts (Special Dogs for Special People), Harmony’s Hounds (Dogs with Special Needs), and Career Change Dogs.
• DFD rescues dogs from animal shelters throughout Oregon, Washington, and California. We choose dogs between the ages of eight months and three years old that are people friendly, confident, and motivated by toys, treats, and affection. We rescue, train, and place 30-40 dogs annually.
• The dogs are trained with positive reinforcement and lots of love.
• All dogs that enter training are first spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and receive any necessary medical treatment so they have the best possible chance to succeed.
• Hearing Dogs are trained to alert to the sounds: fire/smoke alarm, telephone, door knock, doorbell, oven timer, alarm clock, and name call. In some cases a dog may be trained for the baby cry.
  • In addition to sound training, Hearing Dogs are also extensively obedience trained and socialized.
  • More than 1½ million of the 23 million deaf or hard of hearing individuals in the United States and Canada could benefit from a Hearing Dog.
• Autism Assistance Dogs are trained to enhance the safety of children with autism by acting as an anchor and preventing the child from bolting into dangerous situations. These dogs can also have a calming effect on the child and possibly improve the child’s willingness to communicate and bond.
• Miracle Mutts (Special Dogs for Special People) – Special furry friends who provide companionship, motivation, and emotional support to people who need a helping paw. These dogs help with depression and loneliness; they provide a reason to get up in the morning and motivation to exercise; and they generally make life more worth living.
• Harmony’s Hounds (Dogs with Special Needs) – Dogs who have a special physical or emotional need and are looking for someone willing to provide a stable, loving home and any special care they might need with things like on-going medical concerns, old age, anxiety issues, allergies, and seizures. In the right, special environment, these dogs can thrive and provide lots of love.
• Career Change Dogs – Wonderful dogs that make loving pets and companions.

Pups the Traveling Labrador is coming to Dogs for the Deaf Watch for him around the Rogue Valley! Dogs for the Deaf is expecting a very special guest the first week in March. For nearly four years, Pups the Traveling Labrador has traveled the world going to the best resorts, on cruises, to restaurants and visiting organizations in locations like Russia, Jamaica, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Barbados, San Francisco, England, New York, Cozumel and many other places. Pups is also working on his own series of books called “Pups the Traveling Labrador.” Did we mention that Pups is a stuffed black Labrador Retriever? Gulf Coast Dog Magazine quotes, “Pups is the hottest thing in the travel world right now and is so adorable you can’t help but giggle when his newest pictures are posted.” He’s had articles in several other magazines, including Fido Friendly Magazine, Dogs Life, Urban Paws, and Pet Friendly Magazine. He’s been a guest on Animal Radio, Talkin’ Pets Radio, The Pet Podcast Channel, and Beach 104. Pups also received his AKC Canine Good Citizen award. After attending classes, he passed with flying colors! Pups’ home is in Michigan where he lives with his mom, Paula Kidney. Paula got the idea for Pups when she found him in a small boutique. She has a black Labrador, Garth Milo, and he was her inspiration for Pups. Paula fell in love with that little stuffed dog who reminded her of Garth, and she started taking him with her on vacations and sailing trips, logging his adventures. She began sharing their adventures with friends and in a forum on the internet. All of a sudden she was overwhelmed with invitations for Pups to visit others all over the world so he could experience a wide range of adventures.
